A great accompanying read is Intellectuals, by Paul Johnson.
I think you'd find it really interesting. He has a chapter on Russell, too. It's the similarities among the people he writes about that are stunning.
It's about comparing the what-people-say with the how-people-actually-lived that's so interesting. Russell was fascinating - one of the all-time genius, chameleon self-promoters.
